“I have great respect for the past. If you don't know where you've come from, you don't know where you're going. I have respect for the past, but I'm a person of the moment. I'm here, and I do my best to be completely centered at the place I'm at, then I go forward to the next place.”

Dear School of Nursing graduates,

This moment in your nursing journey is an incredibly important milestone.

As you reflect on your past, I hope you will take the time to appreciate the hard work, persistence, and dedication it took to get here. As you pause in the present, I hope you take pride in your accomplishments. And as you anticipate the future, I hope it fills you with excitement for the great work you are about to embark upon.

Throughout your time at the WVU School of Nursing, you have gained the knowledge, skills, and experience you need to excel as nurses. Together, we have established your foundation, but now it is up to you to continue your path of lifelong learning. You have what it takes to be nursing leaders in your respective disciplines, and I know you will make lasting impacts on all the lives you touch.

As I am sure you know by now, nursing is a challenging profession, but it is incredibly rewarding. I often say nursing is not just a career, it is a calling. You have answered that call, and the profession is all the better for your presence.

On behalf of the WVU School of Nursing, I extend our sincere congratulations to each of you. I hope you will stay connected as you become members of our alumni family!

Sincerely,

Tara Hulsey signature
