Congratulations on your commencement from the West Virginia University College of Law! Your success is a testament to your hard work, perseverance and dedication to the study of law, and we look forward to celebrating your future accomplishments with you.
As you rejoice in your many achievements and face your future with confidence, I encourage you to reflect on your time at the College of Law. Through many triumphs and challenges, you developed critical thinking, reading and communication skills, you learned a great deal about law and society in the classroom and outside of it, and you made lifelong friends. We have been privileged to learn from you, as you have learned from us, and we are as proud of you as your friends and families.
The legal profession is noble, honorable and filled with opportunity. Your degree opens the door to great avenues of transformative service and meaningful engagement with the people and places around us. I encourage you to chart a path that is uniquely yours, one driven by your own purpose and values and one that gives your job meaning even when the days are long on drudgery and short on rewards. In doing so, you will be carrying on the tradition of generations of distinguished Mountaineers leading and serving communities throughout the state of West Virginia and the world.
