Prior to the Event

We are excited to welcome you to Milan Puskar Stadium for Commencement ceremonies May 15-16. Here's what you need to do in advance to prepare for the day.

Register to Participate

May 2021 Graduates

You must first apply to graduate through the Office of the University Registrar. Then register for the ceremony.

2020 Graduates

You must register for the ceremony. However, you do not need to apply to graduate again.

Request Tickets


All graduates who have registered for the ceremony must request tickets by 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 9. Each graduate must request one ticket for themselves and has the option of requesting up to six guest tickets. No walk-ins will be permitted to enter the venue. Graduate tickets are valid only for the ceremony the graduate is registered for.

After requesting tickets, graduates must download their tickets and transfer tickets to guests.  Steps to Claim and Transfer Tickets

Faculty, Administrators and Governing Board Members

WVU faculty members planning to attend Commencement should contact their respective colleges. Administrators and governing board members planning to attend Commencement should RSVP by emailing the Office of University Events at

Order Academic Regalia


All graduates participating in Commencement are required to wear caps and gowns. See the Academic Regalia page for ordering information, as well as information about honor cords, stoles, medallions, etc.

Faculty, Administrators and Governing Board Members

WVU faculty members, administrators and governing board members participating in graduation are required to wear academic regalia, either from their alma mater or WVU. Herff Jones offers custom WVU faculty regalia. Basic faculty regalia is available at the WVU Bookstore.

Make Lodging Arrangements

On- and off-campus lodging options are available for Commencement weekend.

Confirm Your Permanent Address

In early May, commemorative programs will be mailed to each graduate's permanent address on file. Please ensure that your address information is accurate. This is also the address where your diploma will be mailed when grades have been certified. You may update your permanent address in STAR under the Personal Information section.
